Why West Ham?
For me it was easy. Born in Barking in mid ‘50s so supported my local team as did pretty much everyone else except for a couple of odd weirdos who were Spurs or Chelsea.

You lot?

Re: Why West Ham?
There wasn't a 'why' or at least I can't remember one, I can't ever remember not 'being West Ham' and I'm pretty certain there was never a pivotal point/moment/event, etc, where I decided to be, was just a natural thing, so can only put it down to the area, and possibly the old man. In short, I was just born West Ham, and don't recall a time when I wasn't.

Re: Why West Ham?
From Bethnal Green, so was always gonna be either WHU, Spurs or Arsenal.

My two older brothers are Arsenal, but I always followed WHU due to my grandad who was from Upton Park.

My old man,his 5 brothers and my Grandad were all West Ham,i was born and lived in Limehouse. Got taken to my first home game (Forest,1-1) as a 4 year old and from the age if 6 didnt miss a home game til wecgit locked out of the cup replay v Hereford some seven years later. Missed one home game between 73 and 83 for my wedding day.

Think thats my reasons.

Lived in Goodmayes, if I went to visit my nan in goodmayes lane on a saturday lunchtime, I'd pretty much get swept down to the ground.

Eldest sister and her best mate, Janice (early socket) took me as a toddler to home games and the training ground every week until I was old enough to go on my own with my mates.

As a young kid growing up in north west London i got taken to QPR, Fulham, Arsenal & Watford but then tagged a long with some bigger boys on a visit to Upton park & never looked back.

Despite being the first one of my family born outside East London, I couldn't escape the family curse.

Son inherited the curse and he even managed to persuade the wife to switch from sp*rs to us

My biological father who died when I was 5 and his mate supported the Irons in the 60's after 'we' won the World Cup!

Then my elder brother followed suit and then me!

Re: Why West Ham?
I had no family connection.

It was simply a matter of watching The Big Match highlights or MOTD and always getting a buzz out of watching that late 70's/early 80's team on the box.

I thought - Yeah, that's my team.

I fancied this girl in primary school, and she supported West Ham, so I did it to impress her. God knows where she is now!

Re: Why West Ham?
No idea to be honest. My mum was from Leeds and supported them. My dad was a Chelsea fan. My nan was a Spurs season ticket holder and my brother was also a Yid.

I think my uncle was West Ham but he lived in Somerset so I have no idea why I started supporting us.

Re: Why West Ham?
as a kid in my East Ham garden i could hear the loud roar of a West Ham goal, and the dreaded small roar of an away goal

.. I used to run in to get the scores confirmed on the Radio

Me old man is orient (fm Bethnal Green), so mate and his dad used to take us west ham. Old man is 92 in couple of weeks and still tells me the O’s result. Haha.

Re: Why West Ham?
my old man took me to games from when I was about 5. The first players I remember are Cottee, Bishop, Dicks, and Ludo.

My whole family are from the east end apart from my Dad's much older sister's husband who's from Yorkshire. Just so happens he was the one who started us off, as he would occasionally take my then teenage Dad to matches as my Grandad wasn't interested in football. Dad then took his nephew and eventually me as well. Still have a season ticket with my Dad, and meet my cousin for a beer at half time.

Re: Why West Ham?
I chose West Ham

My Mum was a big Fulham fan (her heroes were Johnny Haynes & Denis Compton) & some of her uncles etc were Arsenal
When we moved to Australia we used to watch The Big Match around 1973/74 & saw all the London teams in the main games.
Arsenal , Chelsea & Tottenham were all shit and deadly dull then I saw this team in claret & blue under a dark London sky playing kamikaze attacking football (with little success) & said THAT IS MY TEAM. I was a strange child
My brother took on QPR again because they were exciting in the Bowles , Francis era
